Tiny Pieces 14

"Solid Blue" / Miki Ohno

Torn Japanese colored paper and acrylic resin on a 2 inch square paper board.
I often keep adding layers on layers until seeing better results.  A view of 2 inch square would show enormous depth and gravity which is different from my intention this time.  Above is an example of the result which supposed to have much lighter texture at the beginning.  This is complete in a way which drives me to create another one to get a satisfactory result.

  1. "Complete in a way which drives me to create another one..." That's a great example of how one knows a work is complete, or what is meant by "complete".
"Solid Blue" has a lovely melancholy feel, very moody. It reminds me of this time of year- winter becoming spring, and springtime rains.

  2. Thank you. Sharing these complicated feeling in the process made me feel easier to start working on the next. You are also right about the melancholy mood in this piece...looks as if I'm locked in these layers and struggling:)

  3. The intensity of your thought is
    reflected in your imagery...do you
ever take a foto of your work so that
the surrounding wall or table can be
seen?...I am curious how they look in
    that different frame.

  4. Thank you for your comment which made me feel better about the unexpected result this time.
I've used only a digital scanner so far to upload my works because setting the proper lighting and the camera on a tripod would require much time and technique. Fortunately, my recent works are small and the flat lighting of the scanner works fairly well. After scanning, I can try pasting the digital image of my works on various kinds of backgrounds on PC quite easily. Actually, my Tiny Pieces are supposed to be framed either one by one in a small wooden frame or more than 6 pieces together in a simple frame with a black background paper. I never know when I finish Tiny Pieces and start thinking of the frames, though.

  5. ..excuse my stupidity because now
I see that such a small surface
cannot be photgraphed well at all.

So a scanner IS the best option.
