自身が現在とらわれている環境、風土、精神状態が反映されやすい惑星のシリーズです。憂鬱と静寂を友として、我が身を置きたいと思う星を造りました。

惑星230701

惑星そのものが快く成長してくれることを願って描きました。水と緑が豊かで昔の地球と似ているこの惑星では、次第に争いごとや度を過ぎた欲望のさざ波も立ち始めた頃、避暑の目的もあってひとまわり小さな惑星２３０７１８（惑星メランコリア）へと旅立ちました。

メランコリアは夏の夕刻が長く続き、甘い桃の香りが漂うシャンパンビーチの惑星です。

パーティーに向いていることから、日が沈む頃には音色が硬質で精神が軟弱なエレクトロニカの低音が深くこだまします。

Once boxes were wrapped in a gift specification, they come to contain fantasies and dreams. Knowing that valuable things are hidden inside, they are also wrapped with thin cloths and papers to be even more erotic, and could be a fetish used in a ritual to damage the opponent with a loan under the name of a gift. Gift boxes of such a meaningful presence is worth enough to be a painting motif.  They are the gift boxes with an irresistible charm that makes you want to undress them.  Also, I added silver and gold paper foils that reminds me of the burial goods of the grave. Especially the golden color, which symbolizes drops of the sun, is the perfect decoration to encourage a depressed, zombie-like person. I drew this as a gift box for zombie-like myself.

箱はプレゼント仕様に包装された途端、幻想や夢をも内包します。中に貴重な物が入っていることを承知で、更に薄い布や紙で見えなくして色気を増し、贈与という名の貸付で相手にとどめを刺す儀式に用いる呪物となります。それだけ濃厚な存在感を持つプレゼントの箱は、そのものを絵画として描くに足るモチーフだと思います。禍々しくも、包装を解きたくなる抗いがたい魅力をもつプレゼントの箱。更に今回は墓の副葬品を想起させる金銀の箔をあしらいました。ことに太陽のしずくを思わせる金色は、死者のごとく元気のないヒトをがんばらせるのに最適な装飾となります。死者のごとく元気のない自分に贈るプレゼントとして描きました。

Here are a series of palm-sized tiles.

This tile shaped piece is my condensed memory of every strawberry confectionery which is fairly sweet. Having such a voracious appetite, I'm also highly conscious of beautiful body shape and dietary restrictions. When I finished this painting and found the sweet color of pink go wild, I felt pity for myself on diet.

手のひらサイズのタイルシリーズです。

頭に響くほど甘いイチゴ菓子をイメージしてタイル型に固めました。これまで食したあらゆるイチゴ菓子の美味しい記憶をあつめて凝縮しています。私には生まれたときから餓鬼が取り憑いているのではないかと思われるほど食欲旺盛で、それは孤独に拠る病的な飢えなどではなく、幼児や猛獣のごとくピュアな食欲です。それでいて人一倍容姿に対する美意識が高く身長は低く太ったら醜く、生きているのが一層つらくなるので、思い通りに食事を摂ることができません。食べることを我慢しながら描いていると、絵が食べ物に似てきます。私はこの絵を描き終えて、そのピンク色が暴れる様を見た時、ああ貴女は本当にイチゴ菓子がすきなのだね、と自己に哀れみをおぼえました。

I prefer eating fruits ice cream bars in cold seasons to hot summer, and let them melt in my mouth in a warm place. A piece of sweets like a miniature garden seems to contain brilliance of life. When I feel like my life is about to disappear, I would let my mind play in a piece of jewel-like microcosm and take it into my body along with the joy of taste. However,I'm on a diet all the time, so I can't always follow my desire. In order to satisfy myself with only sight and touch, I make pieces like these by kneading my memory of eating and my imagination of eating. My candy-like creations are mostly produced by patience with appetite.

クリームとフルーツを冷やし固めた華やかなアイスクリームは、本格的な夏よりも、寒々しい日に温かいお部屋でお口の中へ溶かし込むのが好きです。お菓子の箱庭的なひと切れには、食欲をそそるいのちの輝きが封じ込められています。自分のいのちが消えてしまいそうな気分の時、宝石のような1片の小宇宙に心を遊ばせながら、それを味覚のよろこびと共に体内に取り込めば、一瞬だけでも元気が出ます。しかし私は年中ダイエットをしているので、心の赴くままにお菓子を食べるわけにはいきません。そこで、視覚と触覚だけで自分を満足させるために、食べた記憶と食べる想像をこねあわせてこのようなものを作りました。私のお菓子みたいな作品のすべては、たいていそれを食べたくて重ねてきた我慢の産物です。

Here are a series of palm-sized tiles. The cool scenery from early summer to summer was sealed on a small tile. These include watery rocks, shallows, and ravines.  I create the scenery with green and water where I would like to stay in this time of the season.

手のひらサイズのタイルシリーズです。初夏〜夏にかけての清涼な景色を封じ込めました。水の滲み出た岩場、浅瀬、渓谷などです。緑と水がある場所に居たいと思う季節にはそのための景色が生まれます。

Pareidolia of landscape

I like the culture of appreciating the Pareidolia phenomenon, such as the views of the horizon, celestial bodies, buildings and trees that appear in the cross-sections of Paegina stones and discoloration of ceramic ware. The moment when I am fascinated by the fake scenery created by Pareidolia is a truly exciting experience with slight anxiety that my mind flies beyond space-time and is likely to be taken away to a distant world.

パエジナストーンの断面や茶碗の窯変に現れた、水平線、地平線、天体、建物や木々に見える景色を鑑賞するといった、パレイドリア現象を活かした文化が好きです。パレイドリアによって現れた、偽物の景色に脳が魅了される瞬間は、心が時空を超えて飛び立つほどに狂おしく、遠い世界に連れ去られてしまいそうな不安と背中合わせの、実に刺激的な体験です。

During creation, I cherish the microcosm of Pareidolia that emerges from the layers of Japanese paper. Below piece looks like a distant view of the city.

私は制作中に、和紙のレイヤーから立ち現れるパレイドリアの小宇宙を大切にしています。これは市街地の遠景に見立てて描いた作品です。

Below is a Paegina stone purchased in Paris. The owner, Claude Boullé, a fantasy minerallogist, had been to Italy to cut out stones so I couldn't meet him.

以下の写真はパリで購入したパエジナストーン。店主の幻想鉱物学者Claude Boulléさんはイタリアへ石を切り出しに出かけていてお会い出来ませんでした。

In the upper section, you can see steep cliffs, the sea coast and dark clouds in the sky. In the lower section, you might find tent-like objects, figures in the vast wilderness, and houses in the distance.

上の断面は切り立った断崖と雲がたれこめる海辺、下の断面には広がる荒野にテントらしきものや人影、遠くに家並みも見られます。

I have been fascinated by the scenery of the microcosm that happens to appear on the cross section of minerals or the surface of Asian pottery for many years.

Since it wasn't quite enough to please me to appreciate precious stones, ceramic works, the surface of the lake where ice had melted and the decayed walls, I began to create such scenery by myself with Japanese paper and resin.

I'd like to create multi-layered texture which doesn't look artificial, but natural texture created by chance and passage of time.

Therefore, I came up with the technique of tearing and pasting Japanese paper so that no artificial brush strokes would remain.

Until the moment when the texture seems to be absolutely right, I keep stacking layers of Japanese paper.

The right moment is when the scenery makes me forget time and feel like to live in the microcosm.

On this piece, which imitates a fictional planet, while traveling to various points with your eyes, you can sit on a textured part like a cliff with a sharp edge, or get lost in thought at a place that looks like a waterside. There is a lot of fun here and there.

You can take a look deep into the layers, or run your eyes in parallel to think of a country somewhere far away.

The spatial axis of foreign countries or another planet intersects with the imaginary time axis of past history, sad memories, and the utmost happiness that someone (or some creature) will experience in the future. At this point, the moment feels like eternity.

鉱物の断面や陶器の表面に偶然現れる小宇宙の景色に長年魅了されてきました。

貴石や陶芸作品、また自然界においては氷の溶けかかった湖面や朽ちた壁面などを鑑賞するのに飽き足らず、自らその景色を和紙と樹脂を重ねることで創出するようになりました。

人の手によらない偶然の産物であるかのような、時の経過さえ感じさせる重層的な質感を目指しています。

そこで人為的な筆致が残らないよう、和紙をちぎって貼り付ける技法へ行き着きました。

正しいと感じられる質感が立ち現れる瞬間まで、何層にも和紙を重ねては修正します。

私にとって正しいと感じられる仕上がりは、ずっと見つめたまま時を忘れてその小宇宙で暮らしたくなるような景色です。

架空の惑星を模したこの作品には、色々な地点へと目で旅しながら、エッジのきいた断崖の様な質感の箇所に腰掛けたり、水辺に見立てた箇所で物思いにふけったりする楽しみがあちこちにあります。

重層的なレイヤーの奥へ垂直に目を向けたり、あるいは水平に視線を走らせてどこか遠い国に想いを馳せます。遥か彼方の知らない国や別の惑星といった空間軸と、過去の歴史や悲しい思い出、どこかの誰かが（あるいは何かしらの生物が）未来に味わうこのうえない幸福、などという想像の時間軸が交差することで、一瞬が永遠のようにも感じられます。

As the outdoors get colder, winter sweets and decorations bloom in the rooms.

Visual joy is gold and silver glitter, crimson, orange, and green colors reminiscent of the rich fruits that are difficult to obtain in winter.

Auditory joy is a hard tremolo of glass, bells, and metal come into contact with each other .

Fragrance joy is the sweetness of dried fruits. And the scent of woody spice play bass in this orchestration of the scent.

Tactile joy is the contrast between the soft cat or the colorful yarn and the cold snow.

In the midwinter, my inner space is filled with these happy and warm motifs.

屋外がしんしんと寒さを深めるにつれ、室内には冬ならではのお菓子と装飾が花開きます。

視覚からは金銀のきらめきと、真紅、橙、緑色の、冬に得難い豊かな実りを彷彿させる色彩の饗宴。

聴覚からはガラス、鈴、金属が触れ合う硬質なトレモロ。

嗅覚からは林檎、オレンジ、アプリコット、チェリー等のドライフルーツが醸す甘い調べに、ウッドとスパイスが低音を奏でる香りのオーケストレーション。

触覚からは冷たく固い氷雪に重ねて映える柔らかな猫とカラフルな毛糸の喜ばしいコントラスト。

厳冬にこそ私のインナースペースは幸福な温かみに身体が痺れるほどの豊穣なモチーフで満ち溢れます。

今回は食欲をそそる甘いお菓子のような一片です。

砂糖漬けのチェリー、オレンジピールやアプリコットをスキムミルクと蜂蜜で冷やし固めたイメージを形にしました。

The hard candy version is condensed with many layers.

The fruit jelly version has light texture with cool transparency.

ハードキャンディーバージョンはたっぷりと何層ものレイヤーを重ねて固めています。

Modestly colored amethyst and tourmaline look calming and refreshing in summer season.I don't trust the spiritual writings about precious stones at all, but it simply purifies my mind to look inside of those cool-colored and ice-like crystals.

The culture of appreciating stones and minerals has spread from east to west. It fascinates introverted lovers who indulge in the beauty of the microcosm. When appreciating the ore, we minimize ourselves and travel inside the stone. Like an explorer in an endless limestone cave, we forget the time and sail while feeling the hard texture of the crystals.

Precious stones such as amethyst and tourmaline are sprinkled with inclusions such as air bubbles, other minerals, insects, plant fragments and crystals, which also give a complex taste.

There are cats in my production environment, so if you look closely, the cat's hair is sometimes trapped inside the resin.

Ziggy is 10 years old and weighs nearly 7 kg.

He often falls on the floor in summer.

I found the white hair on his belly, which was heart-shaped.

控えめな発色のアメジストとトルマリンは、夏季に精神を落ち着かせる清涼剤のような貴石です。

私は貴石にまつわるスピリチュアルな能書きを信用しませんが、単純に涼し気な氷に似た結晶体の奥を見つめて脳内で旅すると、心が浄化されるのです。

石や鉱物を鑑賞する文化は古今東西に渡り、小宇宙の美へ耽溺する内向的な好事家達を魅了してきました。鉱石を鑑賞する折に、人は自身を極小化させて石の内部へと旅立ちます。果てなき鍾乳洞を進む探検家のように、つめたい結晶の硬質な響きを愛おしみながら、時を忘れて航行します。

アメジストやトルマリンのような貴石には、気泡、他の鉱物、昆虫、植物のかけら、結晶といった内包物が散見され、これらがまた複雑な味わいをもたらします。

私の制作環境には猫がいるため、よくよく鑑賞するとたまに猫の毛が樹脂の内部へ閉じ込められています。

Ziggyは10歳になり、体重が７kg近くあります。

夏は床にぼってり落ちていることが多いです。

お腹の白い毛を見たらハート形になっていました。

Minerals, especially precious stones which transmit light, are reminiscent of water and ice from the appearance of their crystals and bubbles. Aquamarine, blue topaz, citrine, and phosphophyllite, which I call summer gemstones inspire me to extract the essences of my favorite thought of summer, such as cool and sweet fruit candies.

鉱物、中でも光を透過する貴石は、結晶や気泡の有り様から水や氷を連想させ、私にとって特別好ましい質感のインスピレーションをもたらします。夏は冷たく、涼しく甘いフルーツキャンディーのような貴石に触れたくなります。今回はアクアマリン、ブルートパーズ、シトリン、フォスフォフィライトのエッセンスを抽出しました。

The rainy season ends in mid-July, and the humid summer begins.

Summer in Japan, where the discomfort index is high, various beautiful traditions for cooling have been passed on.

Some of them have been introduced from Buddhist culture from other humid Asian countries as Thailand, Vietnam and China.

Below are some of my favorite cooling traditions from the rainy season to summer.

Hydrangea with rain dew and Japanese sweets which imitate such seasonal views in the garden.

Beautiful Japanese cuisine with Japanese ginger, eggplant, and herbs.

In Japan, there is a culture in which each tradition is loved from various angles by making full use of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste. It is multi-layered and complex, like a seasonal symphony. However, the stage equipment should be quite simple to gain more pleasures of appreciation.  For example, in a very simple Japanese tea room, the moment you receive tea from a tea set with a smooth and organic shape that fits comfortably in your palm, you will be surrounded by many pleasant information abundant as stars. You can trip to the galaxy with a cup of tea in a small, simple and quiet tea room. 

The more we narrow down the surrounding items and pursue the aesthetics of subtraction, the more sensation we can get. At the moment when we are surrounded by a small number of items and encounter blanks or margins, we tend to knit quotations of dreams, delusions, and memories to fill the gaps. The more memories we cite as we get older, the more we will be able to spend rich time of deep appreciation, by just standing there with fewer items. The moment I see a waterfowl flying off the surface of the river, I would cite some haiku, music, movies, literary passages, and my bitter memories, to taste sensations as pathos, ennui and vanity.

ひと月ほど続いた梅雨が７月中旬頃終わり、蒸し暑い夏に突入します。

不快指数が高い日本の夏には、涼をとるための様々な美しい風物詩が生まれました。

同じく蒸し暑いタイ、ベトナム、中国などから、仏教文化と共に伝わったものもあります。

私の好きな、梅雨から夏にかけての風物詩を思いつくままに挙げてみます。

日本には、それぞれの風物詩を視覚、聴覚、嗅覚、触覚、味覚を駆使して多角的に愛でる文化があります。それは季節ごとに奏でられる交響曲のごとく重層的で複雑なものです。

ただし、風物詩を愛でる際は、常にその舞台装置を少なくして簡素であることを追求するほど、素晴らしい醍醐味が得られます。例えば、ごくシンプルなしつらえの茶室において、掌にしっとりと収まる、つるりとした、かつ有機的なフォルムの茶器からお茶を頂く瞬間、星の数ほどの心地よい情報に包み込まれます。一服のお茶で銀河へトリップすることができるのです。アイテムを絞り込んで引き算の美学を追求するほど、得られる情報量が増えていきます。少ないアイテムに囲まれ、空白や余白に出会った瞬間、人は夢想や妄想、思い出の引用を編み上げて、その隙間を埋めようとする傾向があるのではないでしょうか。歳を重ねて引用する思い出が多くなるほど、少ないアイテムをよすがにただそこへ佇むことで、有意義なひとときを過ごすことができるようになります。一羽の水鳥が川面から飛び立つ光景を目にした瞬間、俳句、音楽、映画、文学の一節、そして自身の悲しい思い出を引用して取り混ぜ、哀愁や倦怠や空虚のような、贅沢な感覚をしみじみ味わうことができるのです。

Every time, the Japanese climate is clearly reflected through my physical senses. As spring ripens, petals, buds, fresh greenery, butterflies, and insect wings appear somewhere in the image. The climate of Japan is rich in variety and is like a condensed jewel box.  Due to the humidity, the vegetation has a deep color, and the small creatures that benefit from the clear stream are full of freshness.  To keep the texture looking like sweets and ore, the canvas is coated in three dimensions so as not to spoil the image when it is viewed from the side.

毎度、日本の風土が私の身体感覚を通して如実に反映されます。春もたけなわに熟してくると、絵のどこかに花びらやつぼみ、新緑、蝶、昆虫の羽が現れます。小さな島国である日本の風土はバリエーション豊かで、凝縮された宝石箱のようです。気候が湿潤であることから植生の色に深みがあり、清流の恩恵に浴する小ぶりな生物達は瑞々しさにあふれています。お菓子や鉱石への憧憬から、カンバスを横から見たときに質感を損なわないよう、側面もぐるりと立体的にコートしました。

For me, the lotus is the most beloved plant in every respect. The leaves and flowers that open in a circle on which both Buddha and frogs suit to stay, the buds with a savory scent, and the simple appearance of the stems that grow smoothly. Since it is aquatic, light can be transmitted coolly when looking up from the bottom of the water, and a rhythm of shape with the water surface as the background is created when looking down from the sky. This must be why it is loved as a motif of ancient and modern religions and arts.

蓮はあらゆる点において、最も愛すべき植物です。お釈迦様もカエルも乗せたくなる円形に開いた葉と花、馥郁たる香りをはらんだ蕾、すうっとのびる茎のシンプルな有様。水生であることから、水底から見上げれば涼やかに光を透過し、空から俯瞰すれば水面を背景とした形状のリズムが生まれます。古今の宗教、芸術のモチーフとして愛される所以でしょう。

Choice of sizes and shapes of the canvas is part of my creation.  There always seems to be "one right answer" for that choice.  To above pieces, 17×17 inches square canvas was that.

Initially I planned to paint 4 canvases of this size to display them on the wall either in horizontal or rectangle.  All 4 were supposed to be unified in rather cool tones of color, but it turned to cold winter season when I finished the 2nd piece.  Since I would like to treat warm tones of color in cool-temperature environment, I need to wait for the next summer to start remaining 2 pieces. 

カンバスサイズとカンバス形状の選択も制作の一部です。その選択にはいつも「ただ一つの正しい答え」があると感じます。この２作については45.5cm四方の正方形が答えでした。

当初は４枚制作して横一列または矩形に並べて壁に飾る予定でした。４枚すべて涼し気な色調で統一されるはずでしたが、２枚目を書き終わったときに冬が訪れました。気温が低いと温かい色調の絵を描きたくなるので、この４枚セットの残り２枚にとりかかるためには、次の夏を待たねばなりません。
